Staying in the heart of the Roseland enables you to explore its hamlets and villages, each with its own character.
Portloe - Pretty cottages, The Lugger Hotel, Post Office, Tregain (a small restaurant noted for local fish cookery) and The Ship Inn cluster up the sides of the steep valley from the tiny picture postcard harbour of Portloe from where about four working boats still go out daily after crab, lobster and fish. There is a car park in the village.
Philleigh - A small hamlet set close to the upper reaches of the Fal. It boasts an active rugby club and popular pub, the Roseland Inn, which serves a wide selection of meals throughout the year. Again, one of the quieter areas of Roseland and ideal for those who want to be at one with nature.
Veryan - Some two miles inland from the beach at Carne and Pendower, this pretty and well kept little village is noted for its Cornish round houses at each end of the village. These round houses were built by a missionary for his daughters so that the devil couldn't hide in the corners. Veryan has good village amenities including a Post Office, general store and the much loved local hostelry, The New Inn.
Ruan Highlanes - The rural area between Tregony and Pendower, Ruan Highlanes is an ideal spot, away from the bustle of the coast and abounds with long walks and abundant wildlife.
Ruan Lanihorne - A delightful, tranquil little hamlet on the uppermost reaches of the Fal. Clusters of picturesque cottages, together with a super and very popular pub - The Kings Head - make this a good base for walkers and country lovers at any time of the year.
