St Mawes is an attractive village, often described as the jewel in the crown of the Roseland peninsula and centred on a scenically beautiful small harbour; a Mecca for yachts people, the harbour itself is an inlet from Falmouth harbour. There is a good selection of shops, hotels and restaurants, including Co-op store, butchers, chemists and bakers, which serve the everyday needs of the area whilst a gallery, post office, sailing club and assorted gift shops provide virtually every need that the holiday maker may require.
In St Mawes you will find a very good range of facilities including hotels and bars located around the harbour. St Mawes also has a busy Sailing Club and a recreational ground with tennis courts which can be rented, located close to the harbour. The 16th century St Mawes Castle built by Henry XIII, is the twin to the Pendennis Castle located across the Carrick Roads in Falmouth. From the castle, and about two miles away along the coast path is St Just in Roseland church which has been described as the most beautiful churchyard on earth.
There are popular foot ferries from St Mawes quay to Place, Falmouth and Truro that are a wonderful way to travel and an experience not to be missed especially on a sunny day.
