With rolling countryside, many sea inlets and the South West coast path
running through the area, the Roseland peninsula is blessed with
glorious country and sea views from the network of footpath and country
lanes. There are good guides to walks in the area from both the
Roseland Visitor Centre and the Gerrans Heritage Centre.
ST MAWES WALKS
From Easter to the end of October take the Place foot ferry across the
harbour for coastal walks with views to Falmouth and the Lizard
peninsula.
The walk from St Mawes along the coast to St Just church is very popular. This waterside church is set in sheltered sub tropical gardens and should not be missed. The many eateries at the end of the walk back in St Mawes are always very welcome.
During the season there are guided walks of the village. For details you should contact the Roseland Visitor Centre situated in the main village car park. The centre is able to supply maps of a number of local walks. Treasure Trails sell a range of walks which keep the whole family entertained with features to spot and historic links to the area.
The walk from Portscatho southwards to St Anthony's head with its lighthouse and super views across the Fal estuary to the Lizard peninsula and back is very popular. If you head north along the SW footpath and are feeling energetic, look for the Ship Inn at Portloe for refreshments. This is a good day's walk and gives you a good insight into the coastline of the Roseland.
