This traditional Cornish cottage has been sympathetically restored into a very bright and appealing character holiday home. The Old Dairy is just 100 yards from the sea, beach and amenities of St Mawes and is an excellent base for both beach and touring holidays.
The spacious living accommodation on the ground floor is open plan with stripped wood flooring, white washed walls and beamed ceiling throughout. The fitted kitchen has an extensive range of units with plenty of work tops and storage areas. There is a fitted range cooker, built in washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and a microwave oven.
Adjacent to the kitchen area is the dining area with a pine dining table and chairs also a lovely bay window with distant sea views.
The living room area has a feature fire place with a wood burning stove, comfortable furniture, television, DVD and an identical bay window with distant sea views.
A door and two steps from the open plan living area leads to a second compact galley kitchen fitted with fridge and combination microwave. The rest of the annex comprises a light & airy bedroom with king sized bed, TV, DVD player. The en suite has a shower and WC.
A feature of the open plan living space is the traditional cottage staircase leading to the first floor. There are two first floor bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, free standing wardrobe and chest of drawers. The second one is identical and is fitted with twin 2' 6" beds, free standing wardrobe and chest of drawers. Both bedrooms also have the benefit of charming half bonnet ceilings and picture windows. A family bathroom with bath, wash basin, WC and large airing cupboard complete the first floor accommodation.
WIFI is available.
There is a combination of night storage heaters and electric radiators to compliment the wood burning stove.
To the side of the Old Dairy and approached by a number of steps is the outside patio area. This delightful space offers lovely sea views and is in an ideal place to relax and entertain. Patio furniture and a barbecue are provided.
Directly outside there is private parking for 1 large car.
Charming but with some shortcomings.
"The Old Diary is charming & oozes character. Having a 90 year old in our party we thought the ground floor bedroom & ensuite would be ideal. However, there are 2 deep steps between the lounge & the corridor leading to the ground floor bedroom. This was not a problem going down, but getting up the steps was more of a problem as there was nothing to hold on to. A rail of some sort would be extremely helpful. Having rented properties with Portscatho Holidays in the past we were slightly disappointed that the property wasn't up to their usual high standard of cleanliness. The kitchen bin was dirty & we didn't use the outside furniture as it all needed a good wash down. The situation was ideal as the 90 year old in our party could walk into the centre of the village around the harbour with no problem. "
Thank you for your feedback, I am delighted that you found the location of the cottage suitable for the elderly member of the family. I will update the website to mention the two steps going through the annex and certainly look into the possibility of a hand rail.

"Well maintained comfortable and cosy cottage in an excellent location, with easy access to all the local amenities. As you'd expect in a period property the ceilings and doorways are quite low, and after a few bumps on the head my 2 6ft 6" sons soon learnt to duck! There are two very nice elevated patio area's for outdoor dining, a key to the side door with access to this area would have been helpful. The real bonus is a parking space next to the house, a rarity when renting in St Mawes. Overall a great place to stay and we would consider renting again in future."
A Good Stay in The Old Dairy
"All good for a family with a child and a separate quiet annexe for grandparents to stay. The ONLY problem was having to pay extra for a stair gate as this should have been provided FREE as part of the package and provided without a moan! "
We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the Old Dairy and it was restful for the grandparents in your party as well. We do apologise if the housekeeper appeared unwelcoming when you arrived. Unfortunately we were not aware that a child was included with your booking. When we became aware that you needed a stairgate this was provided immediately for you and we certainly do not charge for this. May I thank you though for giving the housekeeper the time to then prepare the Old Dairy for you. We recognise it is often easy to arrive at a property early and expect everything to be ready for you. We thank you for recognising this and for then giving her the time she needed to finish the presentation of the accommodation to the correct standard for you.
