The house was spacious for 3 adults and 3 girls under 12 The Laundry room was great for drying .
"Sun Rise was described as a family house and it was that .Well used but comfortable .Plenty of board games for all ages . we were 89 down to 5 years. the kitchen had all the basic needs ,it was a shame that we only found extra crockery in the dining room on the last day !. a short safe walk for the children to go to the safe sandy beach . Sea views from the 2 front bedrooms and the lounge down stairs . A safe enclosed back yard for the children to play in ,but that needs some loving care to tidy up the flower pots. even throwing them out would be good ! on the whole a comfortable enjoyable stay .can we have a dish washer please?!! We hope to return next year. "
A long winter let
"This was the second consecutive long winter let and we were disappointed to find that little or no maintenance had been carried out since the previous February. The garden was overgrown, especially at the rear and the back paved garden was in need of cleaning. The down stairs carpets were dirty and badly stained in places. On arrival in mid November we found that the central heating did not work and it was over a week before the plumber could repair it as much of the boiler needed replacing. In the meantime the old electric storage heaters did provide some background heating but took 24 hours to heat up. Similarly, the open fire smoked into the lounge and large amounts of soot fell down the chimney. As Portscatho Holidays had no record when the chimney had been swept we did not want to risk a chimney fire and did not relight it. Eventually a chimney sweep visited and by Christmas we were able to use the open fire. Once the heating systems had been rectified the cottage was comfortably warm, but at a cost. The equipment in the cottage is old and well used. The washing machine leaks from the detergent drawer and one of the shelves in the fridge freezer is broken. The vacuum cleaner pipe has collapsed and almost unusable. These issues were advised to Portscatho Holidays and, despite a visit by a "handman" the defects have not been repaired. The location of Sunrise is good, being on North Parade and close to the heart of this charming and friendly village. But sadly, it has seen better days and in need of some tender love and care. There had been a change of the owners of Portscatho Holidays who manage the property and initially gave the impression that were inexperienced. They were certainly not proactive and we feel that more should have been done before the winter let to ensure that the cottage was suitable. Subsequently, the staff have been pleasant and appear to be trying. We had looked to let for next winter but felt the increased rent was not value for money even if the cottage had been thoroughly cleaned and re-equipped. "
I am very sorry that you found problems at Sunrise during your stay over the winter. As your booking followed a busy summer and autumn season, it was unfortunate we did not have the opportunity to refresh the cottage at that time. This would normally happen over the winter period when essential maintenance can be carried out in preparation for the year ahead. I apologise that we were unable to achieve this for you, however we did react to the various issues in order to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I am pleased to confirm that the cottage has now been redocorated and the issues have been addressed. Sunrise is and will remain a comfortable and homely cottage that is perfect accommodation for a family holiday in this picturesque coastal village.
