Cornwall, as a haven for outdoor activities and sports, has long been regarded as one of the best counties for group holidays, with plenty of things to do in Cornwall to keep everyone happy. From activities making the most of the county’s unique coastline to the more unusual of outdoor pursuits, Cornwall has everything you need to enjoy a break away.
So whether you’re a Best Man trying to come up with the ultimate stag do, or looking to plan a family reunion, Cornwall won’t disappoint if you’re planning to stay in large holiday cottages in South Cornwall and are armed with this list of the best group activities in the county.
In the water
One of Cornwall’s most dramatic and well-loved features is its coastline, so it may come as no surprise that there are numerous activities to get your teeth, or goggles, stuck into that are also perfect for large groups.
Diving is a great way to get acquainted with the local area’s underwater wildlife and environment. Cornish Diving School based in Falmouth is a great diving school that offers guided dives and many other types of diving lessons, so you can become a fully-fledged diver or just enjoy a trip into the waters for the day just as easily.
Those staying in St Mawes holiday cottages for groups should take advantage of the nearby St Mawes Kayaks, offering both one and two-three person kayaks to hire. Also based in St Mawes is the great workout of stand up paddle boarding, or SUP, with Get On Board S.U.P. They offer both tuition and paddle board hire on the River Fal. So why not make like Laird Hamilton and get on board?!
Finally, what’s a trip to Cornwall without surfing? Surfing in Cornwall is a great sport to learn as a group and many surf schools will happily take on large and small groups of people. Falmouth & Porthtowan Surf School is a reputable surf school with some fantastic instructors who will have you paddling through the swell and riding barrels in no time.
On the ground
Ok maybe not real shooting, but the Cornish landscape does offer some truly great clay pigeon shooting and laser clay shooting experiences. Here groups can test their reactions with many different session options available at Calevan Farm in Falmouth thanks to Green Leisure, with great prices and group rates available to reduce the costs.
One of the best things to do in Cornwall to make the most of the picturesque landscape is that of horse riding. Nothing quite beats the feeling of learning to ride in beautiful surroundings, with views and speeds that can take your breath away. Bosvathick Riding Stables in Falmouth offer group lessons at just £18 an hour- giddy up!
In the air
Want to see even more of the Cornish landscape? Then you had better take to the air. Adrenalin Quarry in Liskeard is home to one of the best zip lines in the county, offering one of the most high adrenalin activity things to do in Cornwall. With group discounts seeing you receive ‘free zips’ and many other fun activities to enjoy at the centre, you had better hope you’re not afraid of heights.
If that weren’t enough of an adrenaline rush then maybe it’s time to go even higher, with skydiving in Cornwall. There are numerous companies and fantastic locations to take up this thrilling activity in Cornwall, many of which offer discounts for groups and parties. Skydive Cornwall is one such company, based at Perranporth Airfield, which takes its visitors up 10 thousand feet and allows you to see as far away as Land’s End. Similarly, UK Skydiving Adventures offer Tandem, Static Line and AFF Level 1 courses at their skydiving centre in Perranporth. Groups between 10 and 19 people can receive discounts of £10, with 30+ people receiving £20 off of the price of the adventure.
These are just a few of the great things to do in Cornwall that are perfect for groups visiting the area, but there are plenty more to satisfy both the adrenaline junkie or sightseer in you as well as numerous traditional pubs, bars, restaurants and attractions.
