The world-famous Tall Ships Regatta which is heading to Falmouth between August 28th and 31st is already starting to have a positive effect on the local area’s businesses.
The regatta is expected to provide a huge financial boost to the Cornish dog friendly cottages sector and related trades, with the Tall Ships event set to attract many visitors from around the world.
The Tall Ships Regatta will see 35 ships set sail from Falmouth this summer, and it is hoped that thousands will attend, just like in 2008 when the Cornish town last hosted the event. That year, Falmouth welcomed 100,000 people over the course of the regatta and £12 million was reportedly spent in the area by visitors and media representatives from across the globe.
Steve Matta from the Fal River Visitor Information Centre says, “Our centre’s normally pretty quiet at this time of year, but for weeks now we’ve been getting endless enquiries from all over the place – Australia, Canada and beyond – and some of the B&Bs in Falmouth are full already.”
