The Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival is all set to feature later this month, offering a fantastic traditional event for people to enjoy on their cottage holidays in Cornwall.
While Cornwall is renowned as a superb holiday destination for its award-winning beaches and picture-postcard coastlines, the wealth of traditional events taking place across the Duchy remain a strong draw for holidaymakers from both the UK and shores abroad.
Known to be one of the biggest and best maritime concerts in Europe, those attending will be able to enjoy a wide variety of music from the sea while soaking up the great community spirit.
Although the International Sea Shanty Festival will feature in a variety of venues across the town, some of the main areas will be Custom House Quay, Events Square and The Moor.
Over 260 hours of live music
Organisers have managed to ensure that this year’s instalment will be the largest yet, with 48 different Shanty groups and 21 different venues offering a staggering 261 hours of shanty singing – 46 more than last year. Among the groups that have confirmed their appearance are Bone Idol, Nankersey Male Choir and the Sheringham Shantymen. The main sponsors for this year’s festival are Seasalt Clothing and Skinner’s Brewery.
The Beat Betty Challenge will once again be returning as the main fundraising competition, helping to raise vital funds for the RNLI. Since the festival’s first inception, it has managed to raise well over £36,000 for the RNLI.
If you have already booked your self-catering holidays in St Mawes during the period and are keen to experience the festival, tickets can still be purchased by visiting the event’s official website.
